Hi
I am just posting this to get peoples opinion on whether this is a problem or not
I have a large Chagoi (80cm plus) it is concerning me that coming out of winter it is not swimming round as you would expect.
It is head down tail up. The pond is unheated and still cold.
All parameters are fine. There are no signs of damage and generally the fish looks to be in really good shape

Should I be concerned. What could this be.
All others are fine and appear to have over wintered well.

Thanks in advance for your replies

Ken

Is it hanging on the bottom and putting more than the usual effort to get to the surface if so it may be a swim bladder problem as fish mat gulp air to keep buoyant.

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply

No it is not hanging at the bottom it is more around the middle of the pond about 3 feet down.
It does level out but I would say it is spending 60% of the time tail up head down
It is not trying to get to the surface and not really struggling.

Hi ken,

Keep an eye on it, i would say you potentially have some unwelcome visitors of the parasitic variety.

Cheers

Hi ken I would give it a scrape, head down tail up is a good indication that something is there and as its warming up they’ll be getting more active. I’ve had flukes through winter and didn’t know until I took them to the winter show then it just really kicked off with the change in environment. If you need a hand due to size give me a shout I’m only up the road.

Hi Wayne

Thanks for the offer of help

Thanks for the offer of help. Do you have the ability to do scrapes. Unfortunately I have never had much success in this department.

Where in Yorkshire are you? I am just outside of Bingley.
I would be happy to pay for your help

Hi

If they are inside her how do I find them.
How should I go about eradicating them especially with the pond temps still low. I am not heated

Thanks again for the feed back

Regards
Ken
