i must admit not a pretty site,me in the hot bath, whilst here however i have had the opportunity to reflect on the relative quality of the skin on our koi.

It never escapes me that the lustre on the skin of the koi here in japan shines like a brightly polished mirror.Ie england that lustre seems to disappear, why?

Is it because of our clinicly maintained koi pond water, the removal of all traces of protein, algae, trace elements and hardnness?

I know its not the food because i feed the same as here whether it be saki hikari or jpd.

I think my koi maintain a decent lustre but i see so many where the skin appears lifeless.

if i could discover why i could make a fortune.

Think this is something every koi keeper over here would like to know.
Would the skin be better if kept in a natural lake over here you do see some but only poor quality fish so it is hard to judge.
Fish from Japan do seem to be the best must be relevant to the environment.

Do you perhaps think its something to do with the mud ponds that they obviousley thrive in

Many of the better koi where they want to preserve the skin, stay in the concrete ponds.they do not get the same growth but seem to maintain the lustrous finish. My feelings are that with their plentiful water and none clinicly clean environments that is their secret.
